Crestor ®
Multiple clinical studies have confirmed the effectiveness of Crestor® in reducing LDL-C (‘bad’ cholesterol) and raising HDL-C (‘good’ cholesterol)
Crestor ® (rosuvastatin) is a member of the statin class; the drugs of first choice for the treatment of dyslipidaemia.
Since the first approval of Crestor® in the Netherlands in March 2003, it has now received regulatory approvals in more than 75 countries across five continents and has been launched in over 69 countries worldwide. The clinical development programme for Crestor® now involves over 51,000 patients and includes a number of comparative studies.
The GALAXYProgramme:
This a large, comprehensive, long-term and evolving global research initiative on Crestor® sponsored by AstraZeneca.
The name GALAXY was chosen as an umbrella theme to encompass the planetary / celestial names chosen as acronyms for the individual studies (e.g. ASTEROID, JUPITER and STELLAR ). It also reflects the ground-breaking and exploratory nature of this innovative research programme.
It has two main objectives:
- To address unanswered questions in statin research
- To investigate the impact of Crestor® on cardiovascular risk reduction, and hence patient outcomes
All clinical studies within the GALAXY Programme evaluate the effects of Crestor® and are related to cardiovascular risk reduction.

Did you know [1]:
- Crestor® is the more effective statin at lowering LDL-cholesterol levels
It reduces LDL-C by up to 55% across the dose range - Crestor® 10 mg start dose gets more patients to their LDL-C goal than atorvastatin 10 mg and 20 mg
- Crestor® 10 mg start dose produces an effective increase in HDL-C which is maintained across the dose range
- Crestor® is well-tolerated with a comparable safety profile to other statins
- More than 7 million patients worldwide have now been treated with Crestor®
