Executive Vice President Global Commercial

Tony Zook is the Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca’s Global Commercial organisation. He has responsibility for worldwide Marketing and Sales activities, as well as the commercial infrastructure in support of those efforts. The global marketing and sales business guides the development and leads the strategic marketing of prescription drugs designed to improve the health and quality of life of patients around the world.

Tony and his global commercial leaders ensure a unified global organisation supports the local countries in which AstraZeneca does business. The organisation covers both established and emerging markets. Tony ensures that AstraZeneca is promoting effective and appropriate use of its medicines for patients in these markets, ensures the voices of the customer is reflected in our strategies and decisions, and ultimately delivers top tier financial performance that further supports its R&D investment and the ongoing business.

Prior to this role, Tony Zook directed AstraZeneca’s largest market – North America - and headed AstraZeneca’s Global Marketing function. He was also President of AstraZeneca’s biologics business MedImmune.

Tony joined Astra USA in 1997 as Vice President-Marketing and Sales, two years before the merger of Astra AB and Zeneca Group Plc in 1999. Prior to becoming President and CEO for AstraZeneca’s US Business in 2006, Tony was Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations responsible for leading the company’s marketing and sales organisations in the United States. He has also held various other positions in AstraZeneca’s sales and marketing organisation.

Tony earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Frostburg University, and an associate's degree in chemical engineering from Penn State University. Tony is a member of the Board for First State Innovation, the Pennsylvania Division of the American Cancer Society and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Healthcare Leadership Council.

The increasing burden of NCDs in low and middle-income countries poses an economic, social and moral stumbling block to global health and prosperity. This underscores the importance of partnership to understand what the most significant problems are and to work together to solve them.
