AstraZeneca Nobel Medicine Initiative

The AstraZeneca Nobel Medicine Initiative is a co-operation between AstraZeneca and Nobel Media. The aim of the Initiative is to increase the general public's understanding of, and interest in the achievements of the Nobel Laureates within the fields of Physiology or Medicine and to further explain the benefits of the discoveries made.

The AstraZeneca Nobel Medicine Initiative is devoted to creating a diverse range of content, which explores the science and the stories behind the recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Content consists of three core elements:

 

 

 

Together, we aim to increase public understanding of and interest in the achievements of the Nobel Prize Laureates in Physiology or Medicine.

We want people to be inspired by these achievements and to see how such discoveries are critical to advancing understanding of how the human body works.

The Initiative will focus on providing information about the Nobel Prizes and the benefits of the discoveries in three different ways:

On the internet Nobel Web will create, with the support of AstraZeneca, one interactive educational programme each year – the “Nobel Prize Narrative”. These programmes will introduce a series of related Nobel Prizes in the broader context of the evolution of the disciplines.

Nerve signaling

The first, "Nerve Signaling", looks at the breakthroughs in neurology research over the last hundred years.

Immune responses

Immune Responses, the second production illustrates the immune system’s unique task to recognize, defend and dispose of foreign substances and to remember them.

Through broadcast documentariesNobel Media will produce, with the support of AstraZeneca, one broadcast documentary per year on a topic related to the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The Mystery of Memory

The first of these, "The Mystery of Memory" reviews the current research in the biological workings of memory and traces its heritage to the Nobel Prize awarded discoveries in this field

At lecture events AstraZeneca, in co-operation with Nobel Media and Nobel Web, will host lectures at selected AstraZeneca research centres worldwide for AstraZeneca employees and members of our local communities. Visiting Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine will give a lecture and take part in a Question & Answer session. Information about these events will be published here as they become available.
