Menelas (Mene) Pangalos, PhD
Executive Vice President, Innovative Medicines, AstraZeneca
Dr Mene Pangalos leads our global discovery research and early development activities for small molecules. He joined AstraZeneca in 2010 from Pfizer where he was appointed Senior VP and Chief Scientific Officer in Neuroscience Research at the end of 2009, following the acquisition of Wyeth. Prior to this, he was EVP and Head of Discovery Research at Wyeth. He is an Adjunct Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania and a visiting professor at the Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases (King’s College London). He has edited the book “Understanding G-protein coupled receptors in the CNS” and a number of journal issues focused on drug discovery in the CNS. He has also published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles in well-known scientific journals.

Bahija Jallal, PhD
Executive Vice President, Research & Development, MedImmune
Dr Bahija Jallal leads our global discovery research and early biopharmaceutical and clinical development activities for biologics at MedImmune. She joined MedImmune in 2006 from Chiron Corporation where she served as vice president, drug assessment and development, and successfully established the company’s translational medicine group. Prior to Chiron, she worked at Sugen, Inc. where she held positions of increasing responsibility leading to senior director, research. She received a master’s degree in biology from the Universite de Paris VII in France, and her doctorate in physiology from the University of Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris. She conducted her postdoctoral research at the Max-Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany.

Shaun Grady
VP Strategic Partnering and Business Development, AstraZeneca
Shaun Grady has global responsibility for the Strategic Partnering and Business Development (SPBD) function, dedicated to broadening AstraZeneca’s access to scientific innovation outside our own laboratories - a key strategic priority for AstraZeneca. The scope of his team includes in-licensing, acquisition and partnering activities from early stage Discovery through to on-market commercial opportunities. Shaun originally joined ICI as an attorney and held positions in the Pharmaceuticals, Petrochemicals, and Head Office Legal Departments. Upon the demerger of Zeneca from ICI he was appointed Assistant General Counsel, Corporate. He worked on the merger of Astra and Zeneca, the merger of Zeneca Agrochemicals with Novartis Agribusiness to form Syngenta, and the creation of Avecia.

Steve Yang, PhD
Vice President, Head of R&D for Asia and Emerging Markets, AstraZeneca
Dr Steve Yang is responsible for developing, implementing, and aligning the R&D strategy for Asia and Emerging Markets. He joined AstraZeneca in 2011 from Pfizer where he was most recently Vice President, Head of Asia R&D. Previously, he worked for a start-up biotech company and a boutique strategy consulting firm in Silicon Valley. He is the co-founder of the BayHelix Group, a non-profit professional organization of Chinese life science business leaders. Dr Yang received his PhD from University of California, San Francisco and his BS Summa Cum Laude from Michigan Technological University.

Chris Yochim
External Relations Director, Strategic Partnering and Business Development, AstraZeneca
Chris Yochim has global responsibility for External Relations within Strategic Partnering and Business Development (SPBD) to drive awareness of AstraZeneca’s areas of partnering interest. The goal is to establish AstraZeneca as a Preferred Partner within the biotechnology sector, venture capital & academic community. Chris has 16 years experience conducting technology transfer and academic relations at AstraZeneca. He joined the Cardio-Renal Pharmacology department of ICI/Zeneca Pharmaceuticals in 1980 and spent his first 15 years with the company in drug discovery research. He currently serve as Chairman of the Board of DE BIO, on the Board of Directors of PABio and The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia.

Cecilia Schott
Director, Personalized Healthcare & Biomarkers, AstraZeneca
Cecilia Schott is the Business Development Director in AstraZeneca’s Personalized Healthcare and Biomarkers Function. She is responsible for identifying, evaluating and facilitating interactions with diagnostics partners for implementation of personalized healthcare strategies in drug development. Cecilia has 20 years of professional experience in healthcare including biotech, device and pharmaceutical industries with a focus in clinical pharmacy practice, drug development and commercialization. Prior to joining AstraZeneca Cecilia held positions at St Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston, Biogen and Boston Scientific.

Atul Saran
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Ventures, MedImmune
Atul Saran has responsibility for MedImmune’s corporate development activities, including worldwide biologics and vaccines strategic business development transactions for the AstraZeneca Group, as well as responsibility for new MedImmune corporate ventures and oversight of MedImmune Ventures. He joined MedImmune in 2003 as the company’s first in-house corporate and securities lawyer. Atul graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law, and received his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Stanford University. He also successfully completed two years of medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination.

Barry Sickels
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, AstraZeneca
Barry Sickels has more than 25 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry and has worked in discovery research, clinical research and development and, for the past 18 years, regulatory. Barry rejoined AstraZeneca from Pfizer/Wyeth where he has been since leaving AstraZeneca in June 2008. At Wyeth, Barry was Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Global Therapy Areas and North America. Prior to joining Wyeth, he spent eight years with Astra Zeneca, most recently as vice president and global regulatory therapy area leader for oncology and infection projects. He earned his BS in biology from Rider University and holds an MS in toxicology/environmental science from Rutgers University. He also holds a Master of Jurisprudence and a Doctorate in Health Law from the Widener University School of Law's Health Law Institute.
