To give effect to our Global Policies all Senior Executive Team (SET) areas, including MedImmune, are expected to follow any global standards and procedures or, provided they are consistent with the Global Policy, their own local or functional standards and procedures.
Because many of the Global Policies are directed at specific functional areas within the Company, training is targeted and driven by each SET area so that employees are trained on the topics that are relevant to them.
We continue to review our Global Policies and our extensive range of supporting policies and standards, to ensure that they appropriately and effectively support our Code and Global Policies.
Based on almost two years’ experience since adoption of our Global External Interactions Policy and our revised Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy, we reviewed, updated and merged these two policies into one during 2012. We did this to improve clarity and understanding of what is required of our employees worldwide in our interactions with external stakeholders including healthcare professionals, healthcare organizations, scientific service providers, public officials, payers and patient groups. Core principles remain unchanged and the new Policy reinforces in particular our zero tolerance for bribery or corruption, or for improper promotion of our products. To facilitate high quality medical education and scientific exchange, the new Policy allows for greater support to bring doctors together, in limited circumstances. Similarly, we have determined that we can support scientific discourse by sponsoring a limited number of doctors to attend international congresses, also in limited circumstances and with appropriate controls. We are confident that the new Policy, backed by internal training and the strong controls and safeguards we have in place, will continue to ensure that we deliver on our commitment to integrity and consistently high standards of sales and marketing practice worldwide.
