Gastrointestinal (GI)
We aim to maintain our leading position in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by focusing on life cycle initiatives for Nexium® to gain further market penetration by broadening its use, coupled with innovative research and development of new therapies for GERD beyond acid expression.

Medical need

In the Western World (i.e. Europe and North America combined), according to different estimates, between 10% and 20% of adults suffer from gastresophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The prevalence rate of GERD in Asia is lower but increasing.

Around 40% of patients still suffer from GERD symptoms despite PPI treatment.
