Oncology AstraZeneca is committed to the development of novel approaches to cancer therapy. Our portfolio includes products in clinical development for a range of solid and haematological tumours including breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, pancreatic and thyroid cancers. Current research is directed towards the identification of novel mechanisms regulating tumour cell growth and the supporting tumour environment. Infection AstraZeneca’s mission in infectious disease research is the discovery and development of first-in-class antibacterial and anti-virals agents. Our current core expertise is in serious hospital-based infections. Antibacterials: AstraZeneca now markets Merrem®, a leading injectable carbapenem anti-bacterial and has a pipeline of products that will principally target this area. Anti-virals: Through the acquisition of Arrow Therapeutics and MedImmune, AstraZeneca has established a position in anti-viral therapy. Through MedImmune, we market Synagis® and FluMist®.

AstraZeneca is particularly interested in partnering opportunities for the following Biological Effect Areas:
• Growth Factors/Survival Signalling • Apoptosis • Vascular Modulation • DNA Repair Inhibition • Immune Mediated Killing
Other Areas of Interest • Cytotoxics differentiated on efficacy, tolerability and/or safety grounds from existing agents (with differentiation demonstrated by randomised controlled Ph II trials or later) • Differentiated, next-generation, oncology-specific supportive care opportunities

AstraZeneca is interested in national, regional and global opportunities for small molecules and biologicals in all therapeutic classes (biologic opportunities should be forwarded to our MedImmune colleagues)
We are seeking collaborations and product licensing deals as well as platform technology opportunities. Key criteria for anti-bacterial product licensing deals are novelty although we have an interest in conventional anti-bacterials if late phase and differentiated. Key critieria for anti-viral product licensing deals are novelty and/or complementarity to in-house targets, particularly for RSV and HCV. We have an interest in therapies for other viruses if late phase and differentiated.
Examples of recent deals in infection: • Licensed CytoFab™ from Protherics for treatment of sepsis • Licensed rights to Cubicin™ from Cubist for China and many other Asia Pacific and MEA markets
