ASTRAZENECA ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF GLOBAL E-BUSINESS VICE PRESIDENT

AstraZeneca today announced the appointment of Kathleen Sheehan to the position of Vice President, Global eBusiness, reporting to John Patterson, Executive Vice President of Product Strategy & Licensing.

Sheehan, who joins AstraZeneca from Bank One International, will lead a Global eBusiness team with representatives from the company's key functional groups and major geographic markets, including the U.S, to develop and oversee critical Business to Consumer (B2C) eBusiness projects.

Additionally, in the U.S., Richard Williams, Vice President, U.S. eBusiness, has been appointed to lead the U.S. eBusiness group and become a member of the newly created team. With the importance of the U.S. marketplace for AstraZeneca and the advanced evolution of the Internet in the U.S., the company felt it critical to have a broad global strategy complemented by a strong U.S. presence.

"We believe that selecting and developing the best eBusiness projects will build upon our already strong knowledge of the internet and our ability to be customer-focused. There is no doubt that its impact will be significant in the near future, affecting every facet of our business from eClinical development, to eSupply Chain, to eSales Force effectiveness. Several programmes are well underway and we are now pursuing additional initiatives which we believe will lead to marketing advantages," said Patterson.

AstraZeneca is currently pursuing both Business to Consumer (B2C) initiatives and Business to Business (B2B) opportunities. The Global eBusiness team will focus on B2C initiatives targeting customers and reinforcing the current eBusiness initiatives to enhance the company's marketing capability. This group will work closely with the U.S. and the rest of the world to transfer the best learnings, share information, and build up eBusiness delivery in key geographic areas. The U.S. is already actively developing and rolling out several major initiatives this year. Some of these programs will be leveraged across AstraZeneca.

B2B at AstraZeneca is designed to streamline business processes and drive growth through new channels to existing and new customers.

Sheehan, will lead the global eBusiness team from the U.S., and work with Richard Williams, in continuing to develop and oversee critical eBusiness projects.
