| ASTRAZENECA APPOINTS TONY ZOOK AS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT for NORTH AMERICA
AstraZeneca today announced the appointment of Tony Zook as Executive Vice President for North America, and President and Chief Executive Officer of AstraZeneca US, effective from January 1, 2006. | He will succeed David R. Brennan who was named Chief Executive, AstraZeneca PLC last July. Brennan assumes his role in the New Year, upon the retirement of Sir Tom McKillop who led the company following the 1999 merger of Astra AB and Zeneca Group PLC.
Currently, Zook is the company's Senior Vice President, U.S. Commercial Operations. Previously, he served as Vice President, Sales.
"Tony possesses the leadership skills to grow AstraZeneca's U.S. business in the years to come," said David Brennan. "With over 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, he is well-suited for this important post at a critical time in our industry."

Biographical Details Tony Zook began his sales career in 1983 at Berlex Laboratories, where he held various positions, including district sales manager; marketing director; vice president, commercial operations; and then vice president, sales. He joined Astra USA in 1997 as vice president, marketing and sales, and later assumed the position of vice president, sales in 1998. Prior to assuming his current position, Zook was vice president of sales for AstraZeneca. In this position, he led a 4,000 person sales force.
Zook holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Frostburg University, and an associate's degree in chemical engineering from Penn State University.
Zook is a member of the Board for the Pennsylvania Division of the American Cancer Society and a member of the Executive Council for the National Pharmaceutical Council.
