Losec, Antra, Gastroloc, Mopral, Omepral, Prilosec (omeprazole)

Losec (omeprazole) is a proton-pump inhibitor for acid-related diseases, which is the world's largest-selling gastrointestinal product market. Losec was launched in its first markets in 1988, and today many millions of treatment courses of the product have been prescribed.

Based on a wealth of documentation, Losec has been approved for:

  • acute use in peptic ulcer disease and/or reflux esophagitis in 106 countries
  • maintenance use in reflux esophagitis and/or duodenal ulcer in 38 countries
  • short-term treatment of reflux symptoms, e.g. heartburn, without reflux esophagitis (symptomatic GERD) in 39 countries
  • the management of Helicobacter pylori-positive duodenal ulcer disease and H.pylori-positive gastric ulcer disease in 46 countries (in combination with appropriate antibiotics
  • gastroduodenal ulceration associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in 27 countries
  • acid-related dyspepsia in 14 countries
  • severe reflux esophagitis in children in 15 countries
  • aspiration pneumonitis/prophylaxis in 13 countries
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in 104 countries

Losec is widely available as a capsule (10, 20, and 40 mg), and also as Losec MUPS (Multiple Unit Pellet System) tablets (10, 20, and 40 mg) which reached their first markets in early 1998. Losec MUPS has now been approved in 62 countries.

Intravenous injectable/infusion formulations of Losec are also available for parenteral use in 68 countries.
