My role is Vice President for the global oral diabetes portfolio. I have the privilege of working cross-functionally with talented colleagues around the world, setting and implementing the strategies that will have the greatest impact on the millions of people living with diabetes and intersecting diseases, such as heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
My primary focus is developing commercial strategy, but I work in collaboration with global colleagues in Research and Development, Medical, and in-country teams – from early development through to the launch of a product and beyond – to then translate strategy in to action.
Ultimately, my goal is to continue to build our innovative diabetes portfolio, making sure we put in place the right strategy to benefit patients both today and for the next decade and beyond.
I am convinced that working with a company such as AstraZeneca offers a meaningful opportunity to have a real impact on patient outcomes and overall advance healthcare by delivering novel medicines.
This opportunity to put patients first and follow the science is the reason I joined pharma as a physician, and I find it profoundly rewarding and motivating. After doing my physician training, I made the move to the pharmaceutical sector in 2002 in Algeria, where I progressed from Medical Manager to Cardiology Franchise Manager, leading a cardiovascular portfolio.
I joined AstraZeneca France in 2007, as Medical Project Manager. It was a good opportunity for me to move to a large country and work in one of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies. I took on roles with increasing responsibilities, as Medical Team Leader and Regional Medical Director in Maghreb, leading a medical department reorganisation and heading up a team covering Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
I became President of AstraZeneca Algeria in 2013 and worked to build trust and close collaboration with the health authorities through research and development initiatives, patient support programmes and international collaborative projects.
It is fantastic that AstraZeneca valued my prior experiences, giving me the opportunities to develop from a medical role to a commercial one, which is quite unique. Now, I work as part of a team that operates around the world. This is a role in which you think globally, while working today and always thinking of tomorrow to improve the lives of patients.
I’m particularly proud of the oncology strategy I was able to implement in North West Africa in 2014. In collaboration with the local authorities, we were able to shape the healthcare system and environment to have the greatest impact on the lives of people living with cancer.
In every role I have had so far, it has been rewarding to see the impact on, and collaboration with, the medical community. We have been able to build significant trust between the professional healthcare community and authorities – especially when I was a Country President – and establish ourselves as a really valuable, trusted healthcare partner.
Be among our employees who continue to make us an innovation-driven company that stands firmly among the world’s leaders in biopharmaceuticals.
