Dr. Magnus J. Johansson is Associate Principal Scientist in the CVMD iMed Medicinal Chemistry department. He has a PhD focused on the preparation of chiral phosphines and asymmetric catalysis at CTH, followed by development of gold-catalyzed asymmetric cyclopropanations at University of California at Berkeley. More recently, Magnus completed a sabbatical as research fellow at the department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. At AstraZeneca, his focus is on synthesis development and he has worked with several different academic collaborations, including with Stockholm University and Karolinska Institute. He actively supervises post-docs and PhD students involved in these collaborations. A common theme has been catalysis with a focus on transition metal mediated reactions. Magnus is also member of the board in the VINNOVA and Swedish Research Council funded Berzelii Center EXSELENT, and is a member of the board of the Swedish Chemical Society, Organic Chemistry division.
