Professor Peter Le Souëf is a recognised international leader in paediatric respiratory research. He trained at 3 centres of excellence: University College Hospital, London; Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto; Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. He has published 243 papers in peer-reviewed journals with an H-index of 53 and over 9,000 citations. His research achievements have been recognised internationally particularly for his innovative research ideas and for developing new fields of research, many of which are translational, including: new techniques for assessing respiratory physiology in infants (including the most accurate assessment of infants’ respiratory function in current use); aerosol drug delivery in children (his work largely defined current understanding in this field); immunogenetics in childhood asthma; evolution of the human immune system (relationship between climate and immune system responses); and immunological regulation in acute severe respiratory virus infection in children.
