Entrepreneurs and researchers developing technologies that advance sustainable solutions for the health of people, society and the planet are invited to co-locate, scale and innovate within this unique ecosystem at the heart of AstraZeneca’s R&D site in Gothenburg.
Life science meets sector convergence meets sustainability
Founded in 2014, the BioVentureHub redefined life science innovation by co-locating emerging companies with AstraZeneca’s R&D teams. Initially focused on life science scaleups, the BioVentureHub evolved into a diverse ecosystem where companies specializing in digital health and platform technologies such as AI, advanced computing & analytics, collaborate with AstraZeneca and each other to explore new frontiers beyond traditional pharma.
Building on its pioneering model—and recognizing the growing urgency to address climate change—the BioVentureHub has expanded its mission to include sustaintech: technologies that reduce environmental impact. In line with AstraZeneca’s ambition to achieve science-based net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, this move positions the BioVentureHub as a vehicle to fast-track transformative sustainability innovations that will be vital in shaping the future of healthcare in 2045 and beyond.

- Biocatalysis: This process utilizes natural substances to create a more sustainable approach to pharmaceuticals manufacturing. One example is Nyctea, a startup developing water and chemical efficient purification methods—a critical process in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. If scaled, this innovation could significantly reduce water and chemical usage and environmental impact across the industry.
