Youth leadership
For youth by youth - championing today's young health leaders
The Young Health Programme (YHP) champions the development of young leaders and youth-serving organisations through mentorship, scholarships, grants and learning opportunities.
Together, we foster sustainable, collective leadership focused on advancing health equity for young people in underserved communities, with a strong emphasis on preventing non-communicable diseases and addressing the health impacts of climate change.
Through three flagship initiatives — YHP Impact Fellowships, LEAD2030 Challenges and YHP Scholarships — young leaders are shaping policy, inspiring action and delivering lasting impact on youth health worldwide.
Over $1 million awarded in grants
To date, the YHP has awarded over USD $1.1 million in grants, supporting young health innovators to scale their work and increase their impact across NCD prevention, health systems resilience and climate-health action.
We have supported more than 150 young leaders with scholarships to international youth conferences and leadership forums, expanding their networks, skills and influence.
The YHP also supports Plan International’s Girls Belong Here campaign, helping amplify the voices and leadership of girls and young women, and challenging gender and health inequalities.
Young Health Programme Impact Fellowship

Access to development: Structured learning and development offerings to enable Fellows to scale their impact, including both self-directed and live learning. This includes access to the One Young World Academy, an award-winning MBA-Essentials programme with a university accreditation, and professional training.
Access to funding: YHP will also be awarding grants of $10,000 USD or $50,000 USD to the non-profit organisations led by the Impact Fellow.
Young Health Programme Scholarships
The YHP Scholarships supports young leaders who are actively working, studying or researching in the areas of Health Equity, Health System Resilience and Climate, and Nature Action with scholarships to attend the AFS Youth Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
The AFS Youth Assembly convenes young leaders aged 18-35 from around the world to build the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to drive global change. Through expert-led workshops, high-impact discussions, and collaborative challenges, individuals leave equipped to lead and influence meaningful action in their communities.
Girls Belong Here
Pioneered by YHP and Plan International, Girls Belong Here raises awareness of issues perpetuating gender and health inequalities.
Held on International Day of the Girl, the initiative welcomes young women into AstraZeneca offices, giving them the opportunity to step into leadership roles around the world and to share their perspectives, ideas and experiences.
