The UK’s largest laboratory, the DISC, hosts unique art installation and images
from STEM community groups
AstraZeneca celebrates science with a unique mosaic art installation by the People’s Picture, inspired by and composed of over 1,000 original images with contributions from local schools and events with our STEM partners. The STEM Community art project (Science in Pictures) was unveiled at the Discovery Centre (DISC), the UK’s largest laboratory.

AstraZeneca commissioned British visual artist Helen Marshall of The People’s Picture. Her work is displayed across the world, including at Kennedy Space Centre, the National Memorial Arboretum and Gatwick airport, amongst others.
Helen Marshall, Artist and Founder of the People’s Picture, said: “This has been a rewarding and positive collaboration that has flourished over a long period of interdisciplinary conversations and creative development. It has been a privilege to work alongside a team of scientists with such dedication to the participants and open minds to the artistic outcome, where experimentation is playful and there is an implicit trust in the process. We worked for many months and days collecting and processing all the inspirational imagery to make a complex artwork that is greater than the sum of its parts. Congratulations to every pupil and participant who has an image and story embedded in this artwork, a true work of joint authorship and innovation. We hope that it will be enjoyed for years to come.”
The mosaic will also be discoverable via a QR code and on the AstraZeneca website as an interactive 1.65 gigapixels artwork.
